Description: The Akita is large, powerful, alert, with much substance and heavy bone. The Akita has a deep muzzle, small eyes and erect ears, and a large curled tail. Renown for their fierce love, loyalty and obedience to their owner. The Akita is the largest of the Japanese Spitz-type breeds and has webbed feet and is a very strong swimmer. The Akita needs space and should not be confined.

History: The Akita dates back over three hundred years and takes their name from the prefecture of Akita in northern Japan. Developed in 1630 by a Samurai the Akita was produced to be an excellent fighter and guardian. In 1931 the Japanese government designated the Akita as a National Monument and one of Japan's national treasures.
